Alex Remiro has made it clear that Real Sociedad should be doing much better and their recent performances haven’t been up to the same standards as earlier in the 2019/20 season.
La Real have been unable to continue the good form they showed before the lockdown. They haven’t won a match since LaLiga Santander resumed, only picking up one point in four fixtures, frustrating their hopes of achieving Champions League football.
“We’re in a bad way,” the goalkeeper told Real Sociedad TV after their 1-0 defeat to Celta Vigo.
“We’ve played four games where we haven’t been ourselves.”
One of the most surprising aspects of Real Sociedad’s downturn in form has been their issues creating goalscoring opportunities, especially considering they have attacking talents such as Martin Odegaard and Mikel Oyarzabal.
“We have spark but we lack clarity,” Remiro said. “We’re struggling when we get into the final third.
“Before we were generating opportunities with just two or three passes.
“We got ourselves in front of the goalkeeper because we passed well, crossed well and finished well.
“Now it’s more difficult for us.”
La Real are seventh place in the league and five points away from Champions League qualification, with only seven games to ensure European football for the 2020/21 season.
“We have to turn it around now,” Remiro added. “We need to show a better version of ourselves, figure out what’s going on and think about the mistakes we’re making.”
Real Sociedad face fellow European qualification chasers Getafe in Madrid on Monday night at 22:00.
