Gonzalo Escalante has most likely played his last game for Eibar after failing to agree an extension to his contract, which ends on June 30.
The Argentinian midfielder agreed to join Italian side Lazio in January, before the Covid-19 outbreak forced the suspension of LaLiga Santander.
It was hoped he could reach an agreement with Eibar to play until the end of the 2019/20 season but it seems this hasn’t been possible.
Escalante has been a key figure in coach José Luis Mendilibar‘s side over the past five seasons. He made a total of 144 LaLiga Santander appearances in that period and even captained the side on several occasions when regular captain Iván Ramis was injured.
Currently, the contracts of seven other Eibar players are also set to expire on June 30. The list includes: wingers Pedro León and Fabián Orellana, captain and defender Iván Ramis, midfielder Pablo De Blasis and Brazilian striker Charles.
Eibar face Granada on Sunday at 19:30 and will look to go one step closer to securing their LaLiga Santander status.
