Imanol Alguacil has insisted that Real Sociedad are close to their best and that his squad are more than capable of turning around their poor run of form.
Real Sociedad face Getafe in Madrid on Monday night in what could be a decisive match for both teams’ European hopes. Three points for La Real would see them move back into sixth place, whereas a win for Getafe puts them just one point away from the Champions League places.
“We’re not that far from that team we were before the break,” Alguacil said in his pre-match press conference. “We are hurt and annoyed because, if you only analyse the last four games, it is clear that we have to find solutions.
“But four games ago we were not all hugging each other, strutting around and talking about how amazing we are.
“They [the players] are doing well, they’re unbelievably keen to take on these last seven games.”
Real Sociedad have had difficulties scoring first in recent fixtures, even when they’ve dominated possession, and Alguacil has suggested this is an area where his side can improve.
“Getting ahead is key and we’ve shown that all season long,” Alguacil added. “Against Alavés the first big chance was ours and also against Celta.
“But sometimes they don’t go in and it’s very important to open the account.”
Getafe present formidable opposition for La Real, and whilst Getafe coach José Bordalás’ style of play has many critics, Alguacil praised the side from Madrid.
“I love teams that are winners and Getafe are winners,” the txuri-urdin boss said. “Every coach has his own style and his own players with a certain profile.
“But I love the teams of Bordalás, they have a lot of personality.
“They’re a complicated opponent, but we’re looking forward to it.”
The game kicks off at 22:00 on Monday night and temperatures are expected to be above 30 degrees.
